May Wine

A variation on traditional German Maiwein — Riesling, sparkling wine, and fresh fruit

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (750ml) Riesling
  • 1 bottle (750ml) Champagne or sparkling wine
  • 1 cup fruit — peaches, strawberries, or raspberries
  • 1–2 tbsp simple syrup, honey, or sugar
  • 1 tbsp Brandy
  • Ice
Note: A variation of traditional May Wine (German Maiwein) without the herb sweet woodruff.

Directions

  1. Combine Riesling, fruit, simple syrup (or sweetener of choice), and Brandy in a large pitcher or punch bowl.
  2. Chill thoroughly — at least 1 hour.
  3. Add Champagne or sparkling wine right before serving.
  4. Pour over ice and serve immediately.
Tip: Add the sparkling wine last and don't stir too much — you want to keep the bubbles.
