A sparkling classic — gin, lemon, and Champagne

Ingredients

  • 1½ oz gin
  • ¾ oz fresh lemon juice
  • ¾ oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz Champagne or dry sparkling wine, chilled
  • Ice
  • Lemon twist, to garnish
Variation: Substitute cognac for gin for a softer, richer French 75.

Directions

  1. Combine gin, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a coupe or champagne flute.
  4. Top with chilled Champagne or sparkling wine.
  5. Garnish with a lemon twist and serve immediately.
Simple syrup: Equal parts sugar and water, heated until dissolved. Cool before using. Keeps refrigerated for 2 weeks.
