Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 lb butter, softened
  • 4–5 cups flour
  • 1 T orange blossom water

Filling

  • Crushed walnuts (about 1 cup)
  • 1 cup sugar (for filling, if desired)

Directions

  1. Cream powdered sugar and softened butter until light.
  2. Add 4–5 cups flour gradually until dough does not stick to fingers.
  3. Mix in 1 T orange blossom water.
  4. Roll dough into balls and make a hole in the center.
  5. Fill each ball with crushed walnut mixture.
  6. Close the opening and squeeze into a mold or shape by hand.
  7. Bake at 300° for 12–15 minutes.
  8. Immediately sprinkle with powdered sugar while still hot.
Note: The dough should be soft but not sticky. If too sticky, add a little more flour. The cookies should be pale — do not let them brown.
